Newcomers offers more than 25 regularly scheduled activities, including games, book clubs, hiking, dining, happy hours, exploring the community. Most activities meet monthly year-round. FOOD AND DRINK
Cocktails R Us: A great opportunity to get to know your fellow newcomers better! Bring an appetizer or dessert and your beverage of choice. Meets the 2nd Saturday of the month. Partners welcome.
Happy Hour: Friends check out a local establishment on the 1st Wednesday of the month. Partners welcome.
Mangia & Mingle: Mangia & Mingle is a midweek dining out group that meets for dinner on the 2nd Wednesday of the month. We will experience a different area restaurant each month and mingle with fellow newcomers. Partners welcome.
Out-To-Lunch-Bunch: Chit-chat over lunch at different restaurants on the 2nd Thursday of each month. This activity is on a reservation basis. Partners welcome.
Dining Out: A group that meets for dinner on the last Thursday of the month. We will experience a different area restaurant each month and mingle with fellow newcomers. Partners welcome.
Supper Club: Interested people meet in randomly chosen groups of eight to share food at each other’s homes at mutually agreeable times once a month for four months. Then, the groups are reshuffled. Partners welcome
Wine & More: This activity is about learning and celebrating the world of wine. Every other month we will have a wine tasting with an experienced wine educator at a different wine vendor so that we can learn about wines from either a specific region or grape varietal
CARDS AND GAMES
500 Card Game: This easy-to-learn game features the ease of Euchre coupled with a bit more strategy--think along the lines of bridge. We meet the 2nd Monday of every month at 1 pm.
Bridge (Couples Round Robin): Couples teams playing bridge from September through May, each team plays once a month and subs are needed!
Bridge (Ladies Round Robin): Need a partner? Call the chairman and she'll find one for you. Round Robin Bridge is a great way to meet and socialize with our members. This activity starts in September and meets on the 1st Monday of the month.
Bridge (Wednesday Social): For all those who like to play bridge and have a good time. Both women and men are welcome. Meets in members’ homes on 3rd Wednesday afternoon of the month.
Dominoes Mexican Train (Evening): This game has been a favorite Newcomers activity. It’s simple to learn and great fun. Women, men, singles and couples are welcome. Please bring your favorite beverage and a snack to share. Meets the 4th Friday of the month.
Euchre (Ladies, Monday afternoon): Afternoon play for the ladies only. Meets the 4th Monday of the month.
Euchre (Ladies, Wednesday afternoon): Afternoon play for the ladies only. Meets the 3rd Wednesday of the month, except for July and December.
Euchre (Friday Evening): The group will meet on the third Friday of the month in members’ homes. Beginners are welcome, as well as partners.
Euchre (Saturday Evening): The group will meet the fourth Saturday of the month in members' homes. Beginners are welcome, as well as partners.
Mah Jongg: Meets 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month at 10:00 am. Beginners are welcome.
Samba Card Game: SAMBA is closely related to Canasta but introduces a few variations that, for some, make the game much more enjoyable.
SPORTS AND ACTIVE LIVING
Bowling (Women’s): Come join our USBC-sanctioned FUN league bowling each Friday morning. We are always looking for new team members and substitute bowlers.
Hiking, Scenic: A hiking group that encourages a slower pace, while covering 2-5 miles on easy to moderate dirt trails. Partners welcome. Meets the 4th Tuesday of the month.
Pickle Ball: If you're interested in learning Pickle Ball or looking for a group to play with, please join us at Timmons Park in Greenville every Thursday from 1-3 pm from October through May. Our goal is to welcome all in a fun and encouraging group. Both men and women are welcome. Bring a paddle and 2 balls, and let us know if you are a beginner so we can get you started.
Recreational Golf: Newcomers and spouses are invited to meet every Monday at 11:30 am at Crosswinds Par 3 Signature 18 hole golf course for a fun walk and play activity. You can choose to play 9 or 18 holes. We will pair you up into groups of 2 or 4. Great venue for working on your short game, or to just help you get back in the game. Bring your own clubs, balls, and shoes. There is also a snack bar for a late lunch or drinks.
Book Club (Morning): We meet the 4th Tuesday of every month in the morning to discuss a pre-selected book. Click here to see the Morning Book Club Selections.
Book Club (Afternoon): We meet the 4th Monday of every month at 1 pm at different homes to discuss a pre-selected book. Click here for the Afternoon Book Club Calendar.
Book Club (Wednesday Evening): Our group meets the 4th Wednesday of the month with the exception of December and July. We keep the group limited to 15 which gives all members the ability to voice their thoughts about the book. Click here for the Evening Book Club Calendar
Cinemafternoon: Meets the fourth Tuesday of the month to attend a movie matinee followed by discussion of the film. Location rotates between Cherrydale and Magnolia Park theaters.
Explorers: Join the group for fun and informative trips to historic places, art fairs, museums, quaint towns, and much more. Partners are welcome to join in the fun. Generally meets the 3rd Thursday of the month.
Gardening: We visit nurseries, local businesses and universities to learn how to garden in the South. Meets the 4th Thursday of the month.
Needlework: Everyone brings whatever they want to work on. We may have demonstrations or classes depending on the group's interest. Meets on the 2nd Wednesday of the month.
